BGS Board Minutes 7 June 2004 (approved)

BREVARD GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY
Minutes of the Board Meeting, 7 June 2004

Attendees: Betty Eichhorn, Thana Cottrell, Frank Bryan, Shannon McGregor, Jodelle Wilson, Barbara Maloney and Patrice Green.

In the absence of both the President and the Vice-president, Betty called the meeting to order at 9:35. Minutes of the May Board meeting were approved as read. The Treasurer reported a balance of $2,554.62 as of 31 May 2004. She also said that she received a check for $30.00 for research on the LaRoche family done by Pete and Vera. The amount will be credited to the Special Funds account.

Thana noticed that the computers printers were being heavily used but the pages were not being paid for. Several solutions were suggested such as asking the staff to sell blank pages at 10 cents each or installing a coin collector as used on copy machines. Frank suggested donating the computers and printers to the library. Then we would not have to pay for printer cartridges and any needed repairs. The subject was deferred until the full board returned in the fall.

Topics for the workshops were discussed and it was settled to be on Brickwall Solutions. So that people won t spend a lot of time discussing their problems, we will ask them to submit them in writing to the GenSoc mail list or on paper. They will be invited to bring a show and tell also. At the second workshop, we will ask for any results from the help they received.

Frank has now given 8 PAF classes to about 40 people. He described how a person brought in a collection of Mac-formatted floppies of genealogical material done by another person and which Frank converted to Windows and saved to CDs.

Shannon was having problems getting good photos at meetings for the scrapbook. It was suggested that she returned them to the processor and have them redone.

Jodelle reported that she has taken in $402.00 gross this year compared with $454.00 during all of last year. She said 41 people attended the May meeting which included 4 guests.

Another discussion was held on retaining members. The annual form listing research areas will be included in the June newsletter and then Jodelle will list them and the list will be published and also posted in the meeting room.

Barbara said she is going to press on Thursday.

Patrice announced that the new Brevard GenWeb is now up and it is linked from the Florida GenWeb. She is gradually notified the world of the change of address. Patrice asked for $30.00 to purchase TextPro, a software program which will make it easier to handle files for the web. Barbara moved and Frank seconded that the purchase be allowed. It was passed without dissent.

Thana stated that, to avoid problems in getting the fees and membership forms from the education course students, she will attend the first class and collect the money and forms and dispense the membership cards.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:40.

Betty Eichhorn

Secretary.
